Uisce Eireann has been asked to closely monitor water problems in the Bomany and Newmills areas outside Letterkenny.
Another water outage – the fourth this month – has been reported in the area today.
As residents await a permanent solution, Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has called on Uisce Eireann to do all it can to ensure residents have a steady supply of water each day.
“Irish Water has sent a team out to get water going again today,” Cllr Kelly said.
“Earlier this month I received good news that they intend to put new infrastructure into place in the first quarter of 2024 to solve this problem. In the meantime, I’m asking that Irish Water monitor this area very closely to ensure that residents always have an adequate flow of water.”
Residents of Bomany, Newmills, Tullygay and Conwal areas have dealt with low-pressure and frequent outages for the past year.
Uisce Eireann has confirmed that an investigative hydraulic model has been built and the results are being actively assessed. These results will inform both the extent of the problem and will also inform the optimum long term solution. Any improvements required will be identified and then approved for design. Currently the timeline proposed for potential construction is 2024, but this is subject to change depending on the scope of works required.
