Donegal coastal gem to feature on RTE’s Nationwide

RTE’s Nationwide will be shining a light on the history of Fanad Head Lighthouse this week.

Wednesday’s programme tours to the far northern coast of Donegal and Letterkenny.

Presenter Donal Byrne visits Teach Solas an Fhanad – Fanad Head lighthouse – a structure steeped in often tragic maritime history. Now Fanad Head Lighthouse is a community trust project that attracts some 50,000 visitors a year, some even staying the night and now there are plans for further development.

He also visits a community gardening project in Letterkenny, which has become so popular with the green, and not so green-fingered, that it has a permanent waiting list.

See Nationwide on RTE One on Wednesday 30th August at 7pm.

Monday’s Nationwide programme also had a fascinating feature on the Appalachian trail including the Donegal section at Sliabh Liag. In the programme, Raphoe reporter Mary Harte meets a Norwegian, who has been living in Antrim for almost 40 years and is part of the team who designed the Appalachian Trail Ulster. Monday’s show can be watched again on the RTE Player.
