A dark comedy filmed in south Donegal is set to air on RTE this autumn.

Obituary, starring Siobhán Cullen, is included in the new Irish dramas unveiled by the national broadcaster yesterday.

Over 30 hours of brand-new Irish drama will air in the months to come.

Obituary was shot in Bundoran and Ballyshannon earlier this year.

The six-part series follows an obituary writer working at a small-town newspaper, who suddenly finds herself being paid by the obituary due to cuts. She soon takes matters into her own hands, but her bloodlust stands to be scuppered when the paper hires an attractive crime correspondent.

The series also stars Michael Smiley and Danielle Galligan. Some familiar faces could also be appearing, as local extras were sought during the film shoot.

Obituary was written by Irish scriptwriter Ray Lawlor, directed by John Hayes and produced by Nell Green. It was co-produced by Magamedia and APC Studios UK and supported by the Donegal Film Office.

Homegrown entertainment and comedy also form a large part of RTE’s autumn schedule.

Friday, September 15th heralds the start of a brand-new chapter in The Late Late Show story as our new host Patrick Kielty takes the seat.

Tommy Tiernan is back for 16 episodes of The Tommy Tiernan Show in January. Audience favourite Dancing with the Stars returns with Jennifer Zamparelli, Doireann Garrihy and 11 new hopefuls, and Baz Ashmawy presents The Money List, a brand-new quiz show.
