Free first aid training to empower Ramelton community

Ramelton residents are being invited to an evening of lifesaving education and vital first aid training.

The training will cater to 100 people, equipping them with essential life-saving skills for emergency situations.

Vital Obs Donegal with the support of Nicky O’Hanlon, Sip n Slice, is organising two free CPR and AED training sessions at the Ramelton Community Centre on Monday, the 9th and Tuesday, the 10th of October from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Participants only attend one session.

The goal of these sessions is to equip a wide range of community members with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations, ensuring that prompt and effective care can be administered while waiting for professional help to arrive.

The training sessions will cover fundamental first aid techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). These skills are crucial in maintaining the safety and well-being of individuals in critical situations.

Paul Stevenson, founder of the health and safety training company, Vital Obs Donegal, and a volunteer member of Ramelton Community First Responders, encourages Ramelton residents to attend the upcoming training: “We want to  empower the Ramelton community with the knowledge and skills they need to make a difference during emergencies. By offering these free training sessions, we hope to create a network of confident first responders within Ramelton who can step up and provide immediate assistance when every second counts.”

Each event, free to all members of the community, has a capacity for up to 50 participants per session. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from experienced trainers in an interactive and engaging environment. The sessions will be hands-on, ensuring that participants gain practical experience and feel well-prepared to handle real-life emergency situations. Participants will leave with a certification from the Irish Heart Foundation in CPR and AED. The cost for the certificate is kindly supported by funds raised by the team at Ramelton’s ‘Second Encounter’ charity shop. The refreshments for the training are supported by the Donegal Volunteer Centre.

The Ramelton Community Centre is proud to host this vital initiative, recognising the importance of a well-prepared community in enhancing the overall safety and resilience of the area. These training sessions align with the centre’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and shared responsibility.

For those interested in participating, registration details and further information about the sessions can be found by emailing info@vitalobsdonegal.com or calling or texting Paul on 086 080 9443 – please state if you wish to attend Monday or Tuesday’s session.
