Two people were brought to safety after a sailing boat became ‘becalmed’ in the water off Killybegs last night.
Killybegs Coast Guard were called to the incident shortly before 9pm.
The sailing boat had experienced loss of engine power and with little to no wind, the vessel was unable to move. It was becalmed 9 nautical miles west south west of Killybegs.
Killybegs Coast Guard made their way to the area and the crew took the vessel under tow back to the small craft harbour.
The shout was completed by 1am.
The coast guard volunteers have been praised for their outstanding work on an unexpectedly long evening. They had just finished scheduled cliff rescue training at Muckross Head when they were tasked to the rescue.
