The sun, the bands and the music fans all came together in perfect harmony on Thursday evening for the start of the Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues festival.

The event runs right through to Monday, and with over 60 free gigs still to come there is something for everyone.

Opening acts included the brilliant Grainne Duffy, Double Trouble, The Swamp Shack Shakers, Lonesome Pete and Maria McCormack among others.

The late burst of summer weather mixed with the brillant music made for a great atmosphere all over the village and this is sure to grow as the weekend continues.

The music keeps coming all weekend long with acts including, The Mafia Cats, more from Grainne Duffy, Rust Jacks, Indigo Joe, Nashville’s Porter McClister, Mr Castle, Portobello, The Unholy Gospel band, Mark Black, Mirenda Rosenberg, the String Ninja’s, Sam Davidsons Taste,Rusty Jacks and many, many more.

The only ticketed event is the powerful Johnny Gallagher and the Boxty Band live in the Oyster Marquee on Saturday night and they can be purchased here: https://tinyurl.com/2zf3sc2b

A committee spokesperson said it was the perfect start to a great weekend of music.

They stated: “It’s been a great start to the festival and we are looking forward to the days ahead. There’s so many quality acts to come and the weather has helped too, so the atmosphere is amazing already with plenty more to come.

This is the first time the festival has run since 2019 and would not be possible without the support of the local community, the festival founders, and the sponsors including Failte Ireland, Guinness, Heinken and Tease Construction, as well as the local businesses, they added.

With four more days and many more acts to come Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues is back with a bang.
