Four Donegal students have scooped a major award at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singing International Festival – at their very first attempt.
The quartet of singers from four different Donegal secondary schools traveled to Killarney to attend their very first Irish Association of Barbershop Singing International Festival.
There they would take the stage for the very first time as a quartet in hopes of qualifying to compete in New York City this coming January.
Sine hAoda, Sadbh Breathnach (Colaiste Ailigh), Katie Coyle (Loreto Letterkenny), and Alice OConnor (Loreto Milford) all sing with Danu Young Women’s Choir, and are all active musicians, thespians, and community leaders in their own right.
But when they are together they form Ceoltóirí Canóla (singers of the ancient Irish goddess of music, Canóla.)
After experiencing a full morning of watching barbershop quartets and choruses they anxiously anticipated their turn to take the stage.
When they did they took full advantage of their opportunity!
Scoring the highest score of the entire youth contest (25 and under) they took first prize and were all the rage!
Participants, judges and audience members alike flooded to their attention to find out more information and congratulate ‘the girls from Donegal.’
