Newly-elected North West 10k committee looks forward to 2024 event

The newly elected North West 10k committee is turning their attention to the 27th staging of the charity event which has raised €931,000 for 38 charities since 1997.

Tuesday evening’s AGM in the Mount Errigal Hotel saw the outgoing committee and executive re-elected for another year.

Chairperson Neil Martin said that the 26th running of the 10k road race had proved to be another big success with three charities receiving €9,057 each.

“As usual it is fair to say that we excelled in our presentation of the event and the move to the Bank Holiday Monday seems to be working,” Neil said.

“Once again we were very lucky in the charities we chose this year. St. Bernadette’s Special School, Multiple Sclerosis Donegal Branch and Letterkenny Community Development Project CLG worked particularly well with each other and were very enthusiastic from the get-go.

“We now have raised €931,734 for the 38 various charities in Donegal. My thanks again to the three charities.

“My thanks to all the sponsors for their support again this year and in particular the five main sponsors Mount Errigal Hotel, Donegal Daily, Value Centre, Century Complex and Brian McCormack Intersport. Their support ensures that there is more money for the charities.

All 10 local Municipal District Councillors gave valuable financial support and I thank each of them for their contribution” Mr Martin said

He also acknowledged the Gardai, under the leadership of Sergeant Eunan Walsh, for their help and guidance especially on the day of the race. Letterkenny Chamber has been providing administration assistance from the start in 1997 and that support has continued to the present day under current CEO Toni Forrester.

Neil said: “I also must thank Toni Forrester, CEO Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce and the staff for their help and support over the year. The Chamber is a focal point when we need to exchange sponsor cards etc. The local media plays a huge part in promoting the 10k in the build-up and it also gives the charities increased exposure about themselves and hopefully it opens other doors for them in terms of financial help. Thank you to all the officers and committee for your support and commitment over the last year. We are very lucky to have so many volunteers to help out.”

The 27th North West 10k will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday, 6th of May 2024. The Committee will be seeking expressions of interest from registered charity organisations to be beneficiaries of next year’s event. Further details on the application process will be released at the end of November.
