Fifty-three employees from over thirty of the country’s leading retailers graduated from a Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) course this week.
They received their Level 6 Special Purpose Awards in Work-Based Learning Practices at an event in Dublin last night.
The course was developed by Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training (FET) Service and Programme Director for Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision, Ibec, Dr Oran Doherty. It was created to support practitioners from industry and education to design, deliver and coordinate training/education programmes for those already in employment and those about to commence employment.
This course recognises the ever-changing world of work and the need for training to move away from the traditional classroom environment to the workplace. Delivered by Donegal ETB in cooperation with Retail Ireland Skillnet, it focused on a collaborative approach by employers and educators to create training that was relevant to the future world of work and the need for a greater retention of staff.
One of those who completed this training was Anne Marie Lynch, Musgrave Group’s Training and Development Administrator.
“For my role at Musgrave’s, I found real-world applications for the course content, emphasising work-based learning and the importance of future skills,” she said.
“I was pleasantly surprised by how current and relevant the content was, and my overall experience with Donegal ETB was fantastic. The training also highlighted the need for future skills education, which I believe is crucial. I left the course feeling grateful for the valuable education it provided.”
The companies involved in the training included Applegreen, Aurivo, Boots Ireland, Brown Thomas Arnotts Ltd., BWG Foods, Customer Service Excellence Ireland, Dunnes Stores, Easons, Intersport Elverys, Musgrave, Next, Lidl Ireland, SPAR and Tesco Ireland.
Donegal ETB’s Area Training Manager, Vinny McGroary, congratulated the graduates saying: “in your roles as HR leaders, I hope that this training will add great value to your current and future employees in their growth and development.
“I would also like to acknowledge the unique collaboration in this instance between Donegal ETB, IBEC, Retail Ireland Skillnet and SOLAS which enabled us to deliver such a powerful programme to a particularly high-profile cohort of learners.”
