GAA: Glenswilly overcome Naomh Conaill to win Minor Division 1 Final

On an absolutely miserable evening for football, Glenswilly managed to overcome Naomh Conaill to claim the Minor Division 1 title in Convoy.

Glenswilly 1-6 Nomah Conaill 0-4

With both sides boasting lots of talent, it was a pity that conditions cheated fans out of what could have been a terrific game of football.

First half scores were at a premium as underfoot conditions made it almost impossible for any passages of free-flowing football.

Michael Murphy’s side went in 0-3 to 0-1 ahead at the break but should perhaps have enjoyed more of an advantage on the scoreboard as they controlled much of the opening period.

However, Naomh Conaill rallied in the second half and with ten minutes to go it was 0-6 to 0-4 with the Glenties men pressing hard.

A bizarre spell just after that saw the Glenties side squander at least two points as well as an open goal which would have put them ahead.

However, when Oisin McGrenra was upended inside the area as he was about to pull the trigger, Glenswilly were awarded a penalty which ended the game as a contest in the dying minutes.

Glenswilly, spurred on by Daithi Gildea, Daire Enright and Eoin Scott, will feel they deserved the victory but Naomh Conaill will rue so many missed chances in the second half.
