Hudie McCole has been honoured for 56 years of service to Dungloe ABC with a lifetime achievement award.
He was presented with the honour at the club’s awards ceremony last night.
Hudie McCole has been a constant in the club since the late 1960’s, with the club saying that “his dedication to the club and membership over a lifetime has been truly remarkable.”
“Attending training 3 nights a week and traveling to championships the length and breadth of the country Hudie’s enthusiasm for his club and the boxers has been unwavering. Under Hudies stewardship the club has enjoyed great success over the years with multiple Irish Champions, Ulster Champions, Donegal Champions & University Champions.”
“A number of boxers have also gone on to the paid professional ranks, with Shaun Mc Shane having a successful pro career in Scotland and Danny Boyle currently flying the flag.”
Cathal Mc Auley, one of the club’s most decorated boxers said, “we the members of the club wanted to say ‘thank you’ to Hudie for all he has done for us over the years”.
As MC for the night John Wallace put it: “It was wonderful to see these gentlemen reminisce about old encounters with such enthusiasm and pride. The evening will be remembered and talked about for years to come.”
