Letterkenny musician Don Ponsonby’s charity birthday party raised a grand total of €6,565 for the Donegal Hospice.
Don turned the big 7-0 during the summer and wanted to use the occasion to give back to the hospice. Don’s brother Paul had received wonderful care at the Hospice before he sadly passed in 2012, aged 60.
In memory of Paul, and in gratitude to the Hospice, Don held a star-studded gig in August.
Don is a well-known drummer who played in the Denver Showband, The Rascals and more recently the Mindbenders. His many musical friends turned out in great numbers to join Don on the stage and do what they do best.
Instead of gifts, people were asked to donate what they could.
The grand total was present last week, with significant sums coming from Friar’s Rest and CYMS to boost the total.
Don has issued heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended on the night and all the others who were not able to attend and made a contribution to a great cause. He the Clanree Hotel for the use of their premises and thanks to all the musicians and singers that took part.
