The Christmas lights are due to be switched on this weekend in Letterkenny and also in the Twin Towns.

The lights event in Letterkenny will commence at Market Square/Main Street on Sunday at 6pm while the Ballybofey one will start at 3pm at Main Street.

“These events are always well attended and a great chance for all of the family to have fun together,” a garda spokesperson said.

However, there will be road closures in Letterkenny between 5.30pm – 8.30pm on Sunday. Main Street (From Rosemount Lane to the Oliver Plunkett Road) will be blocked off as will Market Square and Castle Street.

Alternative routes:

  • Church Lane to Cathedral Road
  • Justice Walsh Road to Pearse Road
  • Rosemount Lane to Pearse Road (Light vehicles only)

Meanwhile, the event in Ballybofey will take place from 3pm and there may be some minor disruption to traffic, but Gardaí will be on hand to assist with diversions.

“We hope that everybody has a very enjoyable time at both events and we look forward to seeing you all there,” the garda spokesperson concluded.
