Major community concern over proposal to house 90 refugees in B&B

Plans to house 90 male refugees in a Ballyshannon bed and breakfast have sparked high levels of concern among local residents.

The Cavangarden House B&B has been earmarked as an accommodation centre for IPAS applicants.

The family that owns the property insist that NO legal lease agreement has been signed to allow the provision of rooms to the refugees yet.

The owners plan to lease the B&B to an accommodation service company, which has a contract with the government. However, the owners have stated that they envisaged that accommodation would be provided on a family basis, and no lease has been signed under the current conditions.

A community meeting has been called at the Breesy Centre this evening (Thursday) at 8pm to discuss the matter.
