As the new year approaches, Gardaí in Donegal are urging the public to add road safety to their list of resolutions.

By making conscious choices to reduce risks and increase safety on the roads, we can all help prevent accidents and save lives.

Almost 200 people have lost their lives in road incidents in Ireland this year.

Top advice to follow:

  • Slow down. Speed kills.
  • Belt up! Wear your seatbelt and ensure that your passengers do too.
  • Never drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Do not use/hold a mobile phone while driving.
  • Ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before travelling.
  • Ensure that you are visible to motorists while out walking or cycling.

“Let’s all resolve to help save lives in 2024 by making road safety a top priority,” a spokesperson said.
