A well-known West Donegal woman is embarking on a year-long walking campaign so local families and individuals can benefit from Donegal Cancer Flights & Services.

Bríd ‘Winnie’ Sweeney, who lives in Loch an lúir, is no stranger to charity endeavours and has raised thousands for local causes over the years.

She has pledged to walk every day – rain, hail or shine – each day of 2024, including the extra leap year day!

“Cancer is a battle that affects countless lives, and every step I take is dedicated to making a difference,” Brid said.

Bríd says her goal is to walk so that others can fly.

Donegal Cancer Flights and Services is based in Ionad Naomh Padraig in Gweedore. This charity provides community support for cancer patients, with flights from Donegal Airport to Dublin, as well as ground transport to appointments in Galway, Roscommon, Sligo, Derry and Letterkenny. This charity also provides free counselling services, support and pamper days for cancer patients and their families.

“Unfortunately we all know someone with cancer, those in remission or receiving treatment. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated and will benefit cancer patients and their families,” Bríd added.
