Donegal man Paddy Conaghan entered his 83rd year with a cool dip in Leitrim, as he continues his charity challenge for Motor Neurone Disease.

The Arranmore native is braving the lakes of the 32 counties of Ireland to raise funds for people living with Motor Neurone Disease and their families.

Conaghan began the challenge on Sunday 7th January at Loch Eamhnaigh, Arranmore Island, and took on Lough Gill, Co Leitrim on Monday for day two, coinciding with his 83rd birthday. His journey has taken him to Sligo and he is planning on visiting Achill today, Wednesday, followed by Mayo on Thursday 11th January.

“I am thrilled to once again take on this exciting challenge, swimming across the many lakes dotting the landscape of our 32 counties, all in support of the IMNDA,” said Conaghan. “It won’t be easy, it’s bitterly cold, but the generosity and support of donors and well-wishers spurs me on and enables us to make a real difference in the lives of those battling MND.”

Estimated to span six weeks, Paddy’s appropriately named challenge ‘Ducking and Driving around the lakes of Ireland for the IMNDA’ marks Conaghan’s third consecutive year taking on this challenge for different charities.

The personal challenge invites supporters and well-wishers to join Conaghan at various lakes across the country to cheer him on as he takes the plunge. His journey and progress can be followed on his Facebook page where details of his next swims are posted daily.
