Forecasters are predicting snowfall in northern counties next week as cold arctic air arrives over Ireland and the UK.
It’s expected that showers could leave some lying snow in Donegal from Monday onwards.
Met Eireann forecasters predict widespread frost and “isolated wintry showers” in northern areas on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Met Office is forecasting up to 5 cm of snow over higher routes in Northern Ireland with a few cms also expected at lower levels on Monday. The wintry weather has the potential to move well inland from the northerly coasts by Tuesday.
Despite temperatures turning milder in recent days, they will dip again at the weekend, with overnight lows of -3C.
Tonight, Friday, will be mostly dry and cloudy with lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees.
The outlook for the remainder of the week is: “very cold with mixed weather”.
