Photos: Donegal’s prize winners at the BT Young Scientist Awards

Donegal schools and students were incredibly successful at this week’s BT Young Scientist Awards.

Students from across the county and country convened at the RDS in Dublin to compete for the multitude of prizes that were available, as well as showing off their projects to the public.

A total of eight prizes and awards were handed out to Donegal students for their various projects.

Therese Gunning, Legal Director BT Ireland presents the 3rd Senior Group award in the Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Category to Ciara McDermott, Siobhan O’Brien, Loreto Secondary School Letterkenny, Co Donegal for the project ‘Coastal Crumbling’

An Foram Uisce – The Water Forum Award presented by National Water Forum Member Bernie Connolly to Caolan Mc Taggart, Daithi Mac Diarmada, Matthew Farrell, Coláiste Ailigh Donegal for the project ‘Staidear ar eifeacht feirmeoireacha, tithiochta agus tionsclaiochta ar bhitheagsulacht inbheartabrach abhainn Leanainn’ in the Biological & Ecological Category.

Therese Gunning, Legal Director BT Ireland presents the 1st Junior Individual in the Social & Behavioural Sciences Category to Alistair Cian, Colaiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon Co Donegal for the project ‘The gut microbiome, what do YOU know?’

Tia Duddy and Ethan Dewhirst from St Columba’s Comprehensive School Donegal and their project “Sweet Energy: A New Superfood Energy Pouch with health boosting attributes” at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2024 in the RDS Dublin.

Maeve Brady, Clodagh Gibbons from Loreto Community School Donegal and their project ‘Quantitative Analysis of Radon in Donegal’ at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2024 in the RDS Dublin.

Alistair Cian from Colaiste Cholmcille Donegal and his project ‘The gut microbiome, what do YOU know?’ at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2024 in the RDS Dublin.

The award winners at the 60th BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2024 have been announced at a ceremony in the RDS Dublin.
