Three houses in the Newtowncunningham area have been damaged after being struck by lightning this afternoon.

The incidents occurred near the Inisleigh Co-op at around 3:30pm. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor, Paul Canning, said two of the homes suffered ‘extensive fire damage’.

“One of the houses still remains on fire whilst the other house has been brought under control,” he said.

“The third house has received internal damage where some electrical appliances have been blown to bits. All residents have been badly shaken, but are OK.”

A thunderstorm warning is in place for Donegal until 6pm this evening.
