As ESB crews continue efforts to restore electricity in Donegal following the storms, another power cut has struck 595 homes and businesses in the Glencolumbcille area.

The outage was reported at 1.17am last night.

ESB Networks is working on the issue and estimates that supply will be restored by 12noon.

A further 25 near Ballintra suffered an outage at midnight last night, with an estimated restore time of 7pm.

A number of properties in other parts of Donegal are on their fifth day without electricity.

They include 43 properties in Raphoe and 31 between Shrove and Redcastle. The restoration time has been extended until 8pm today, Friday 26th January.

Twenty other properties outside Newtowncunningham lost supply on Wednesday and should expect to have supply restored by 1pm.

ESB Networks said it has deployed crews from as far as Cork to assist in the restoration effort in Donegal.

Furthermore, over 50 skilled personnel from UK counterparts in National Grid Electricity Distribution and UK Power Networks arrived in Ireland yesterday to help local teams.

The company said that crews continue to work through faults on the low voltage network that have primarily affected single homes and small clusters of customers.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank our customers for their patience as our network crews and contractor partners worked to restore power. We would like to also thank the UK network crews, National Grid UK and UK Power Networks who are supporting our restoration effort and together we will continue to safely restore power until every customer’s electricity is restored.

“Remember to stay safe and stay clear of fallen electricity wires, report any damage to the electricity network to ESB Networks on 1800 372 999.”

Real-time status on power restoration is being updated regularly and is available on www.PowerCheck.ie and www.ESBNetworks.ie.
