Creative ideas welcome for Cruinniú na nÓg 2024

Cruinniú na nÓg, the national day of free creativity is taking place again for the seventh year on Saturday June 15th, 2024.

It may seem like ages away yet, but Donegal County Council want the children and young people of Donegal to help us shape the events that will take place in Donegal.

Have you ever wanted to try something creative? Are you excited about something and want to explore it in a creative way? Parents, is there something creative you would like your baby or toddler to try? Organisers want to hear ideas from anyone aged 0-18 years across Donegal.

Cruinniú na nÓg simply means ‘the gathering of young people’ and is a highly engaging initiative of the Creative Ireland programme in partnership with Local Authorities. Ireland is the only country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people. The initiative is led out locally by Donegal County Council’s Culture and Creativity Team which includes members of Donegal Youth Council.

Children and young people are encouraged to put forward their suggestions by either calling into their local library, Donegal County Museum or Regional Cultural Centre or give their suggestions online.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Karen Sheehy A/Senior Executive Librarian explains further: “We are seeking input from children and young people from all backgrounds who live in Donegal. We want to find out what you want to do, see, make or try on the day. We will then try our best to make some of your suggestions a reality for Cruinniú na nÓg.”

If you are, or you know, a young person under the age of 18, please ask them to submit their suggestions. It’s completely anonymous and will help shape a meaningful creative day for young people throughout the county.

Simply submit ideas at www.wainfest.ie or call in to your local library, Donegal County Museum or the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny. Parents and guardians of younger children are invited to give suggestions on their behalf.
