ATU Donegal’s Letterkenny campus will host its inaugural TEDx event next week under the theme ‘Seeing the Light.’
The fully-booked talk has a diverse lineup of thirteen speakers, ranging from writers to robotics experts and theatre designers to business leaders.
Karen Quinn, a lecturer and co-organiser of the event, said it is the first time Tedx has come to ATU Donegal and has proven very popular.
“The interest in TEDx at ATU has been overwhelming and has already booked out and we could have filled two halls such is the demand,” she said.
“TEDx ATU Donegal is a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and community. We are thrilled to bring together such a diverse group of speakers who will undoubtedly spark meaningful conversations. It is the first time ATU Donegal has hosted a Tedx event and we are looking forward to hearing from experts across a range of topics.”
Among the speakers are individuals like Dave Kinghan, a Northern Irish writer known for his work across various mediums including stage, screen, and animation. Emmett Kerr, Head of Department for Electronic and Mechanical Engineering at ATU, will delve into the realm of robotics, shedding light on the future of automation. Dr Eoghan Furey, a lecturer in computing, will explore the power of storytelling and critical thinking in navigating today’s information landscape. Sinéad O’Donnell-Carey, Theatre Maker and Production Designer from Donegal, explores digital media technology for theatre and performance art, combining visual art practices with the body in the space.
Other notable speakers include Gary Rutherford, an organisational founder and mental health advocate, Joanna Sweeney, a lecturer and musician specialising in Irish traditional music, and Kyle Harvey, a bioanalytical science student and president of the Film and Drama Society, who will share insights on pursuing passions amidst academic pursuits. The event will also include ‘Bubbleologist’, Ray Bubbles who will perform on the day.
The event will also feature an ‘Innovation Lab,’ where creators will showcase big ideas inspired by the theme ‘Seeing the Light,’ adding an interactive dimension to the day’s proceedings.
The booked-out event will take place on Wednesday 21 February from 9am to 4pm at ATU’s Letterkenny campus, Port Road, Letterkenny.
