Residents fear ‘tragedy’ will occur if Raphoe estate is not completed

Residents of a Raphoe housing estate have called on Donegal County Council to take action over a number of health and safety issues.

They claim the Meadow Hill was left in a state of disrepair after a contractor failed to complete works there last year after it went into administration.

One resident told Donegal Daily the council hired the builder to construct 11 new houses and to complete landscaping. However, the works were never completed.

“Donegal County Council hired a contractor to build houses in our estate, but he never finished the job,” they said.

“That was a year ago in September. Since then, the council has done nothing whatsoever about finishing the houses. There was a huge amount of soil left behind, piled high and its blocking vision lines for motorists. Children are coming out to play on bikes and we fear a tragedy is going to happen if nothing is done.”

We contacted the council for a comment.
