An investment of €435,000 has been announced today to support Donegal Education and Training Board’s (ETB) further education and training (FET) service.
Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris TD announced a total package of €8 million for 16 ETBs nationwide.
This funding may be used by ETBs to plan and deliver, at a local level, essential small-scale works to improve the FET infrastructure, provide for essential new or upgrades to equipment needs and implement energy efficiency and decarbonisation-related investment.
This devolved funding programme allows for efficient and effective delivery of essential smaller projects.
The total annual rate allocated to Donegal ETB in 2024 is €2,610,000.
In announcing the funding today, Minister Harris said: “This is a vital investment in our further education colleges and the learners. It is essential to ensuring they have the flexibility to deliver improvements in their campuses and this three-year certainty means they can plan ahead.”
Fine Gael candidate for Milford, Aaron Sweeney said: “The continued investment in our Education and Training facilities in County Donegal has been exceptional and shows Fine Gael’s commitment in Government to ensuring young learners are placed in state of the art, comfortable and environmentally friendly facilities to develop the skills of the future.”
He added: “ETBs around the country are playing a huge role in making sure we have a skilled workforce.
“If we want to build more homes, we need to train more people and to do that we need to invest in our education and training facilities.
Sweeney concluded “The funding announced today will deliver stronger communities and most importantly my colleague Minister for Further and Higher Education, Simon Harris has announced this level of funding will be maintained for at least the next 2 years.’’
