Donegal 1-12 v 3-11 Tyrone
Tyrone’s sharp eye for goal was the difference between these two old North West rivals in this LGFA National League Division 2 contest.
Both sides notched points in the opening minutes, before Tyrone’s Zoe Loughran fired them ahead, 1-02 to 0-03 after 8 minutes.
However just 3 minutes later there was a major response from Donegal, first with a point from Tyrone’s Chloe McCafferty quickly responded to by a Niamh McLaughlin strike for Donegal that found the back of the net – leaving both sides level at 1-03 apiece after a hectic first 11 minutes.
Tyrone responded with 4 points in about as many minutes following McLaughlin’s strike, and kept the pressure on Donegal before Chloe McCafferty found the back of the Donegal net yet again in the 22nd minute.
With Donegal down 1-06 to 2-09 at the half, nevertheless they went punch-for-punch with Tyrone to begin the second half, points from Jodie McFadden, Suzie White and Katie Dowds within the first 10 minutes of the second half leaving it 1-09 to 2-09.
Both sides recorded scores as the game approached the hour mark, before Tyrone were awarded a penalty which Maria Canavan expertly slotted home for the Red Hand County’s third goal of the contest.
That third goal proved too much for Donegal, and left them consigned to only their second defeat of the league campaign so far this year.
Up next for Donegal Ladies is another interprovincial clash away to Cavan on St Patrick’s Day.
