Andrew Gillespie retained the John Harkin cup following a 6-1 win over John Menchia in Evelyn’s on Tuesday night last.

Played over 5 weeks and with 16 players taking part Andrew was the deserving winner and also had the lowest dart leg and the most 180s.

In the final he gave Menchia no chance with his heavy scoring and clinical finishing.

In the semis Andrew defeated Conor McKiverigan in a top quality match while Menchia beat James Bracken.

In the quarters Andrew had a bye as Irwin was unable to throw due to a hand injury and we wish him a speedy recovery, Menchia beat Hugh Doherty, James beat Kenneth Kennedy in a close battle while Conor beat Adrian Byrne in what was also a close match.

In the shield James Byrne defeated Conor McNelis, leading 3-0 it looked like James was on his way to victory before Conor tied it up at 3-3, James went 4-3 up and again Conor took it to a deciding leg where a 180 from James finally got him over the line.

In the semis James defeated Hugh Doherty Jnr while Conor beat David Gallagher 4-2. In the quarter finals James beat Colm McGlinchey, Conor had a deciding leg win over John McHugh, Hugh beat Wilfie Milsop while David had a bye over Gary Doherty who had work commitments.

Highest checkout went to Conor McKiverigan who had a 161, most 180s (4) and lowest darts leg (13) was Andrew Gillespie.

Thanks to our sponsors LMC Fire Safety, The Harkin Family for sponsoring and supplying the trophies, to Evelyn’s Bar for hosting and Ashling for her hospitality over the 5 weeks. Thanks to the 16 players involved who kept things moving over the weeks meaning the darts were over in good time.
