Letterkenny Athletic Club’s Ciaran McGonagle set a new Irish record in the Anglo-Celtic Plate last week.
Ciaran was part of the Irish team competing against strong teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Ciaran went through 50k in 3:20.41 and battled bravely in the second half to set a new Irish 100km record of 6:50:28 finishing in 6th place and first M40.
The race also incorporated the Irish National Championships with Ciaran taking gold and retaining his national title.
Ciaran did not take a break running continuously for 6:50:28, averaging out at about 4:05min per Km.
75 athletes started the race with 52 completing it.
Well done to everyone who competed in the Ballyliffin International Coastal Challenge.
The weather was perfect and rewarded all who turned out.
LAC’s Mark Wallace was the first club member home in a time of 1:03:54, Ciaran O’Donnell ran 1:14:51, Paul Lee ran 1:21:24 while Ray McDermott ran 1:28:12,
LAC would like to extend its best wishes to Paddy Ward and all members hope that he enjoys a speedy recovery.
LAC meets Tuesday 5.15pm and at 6.30pm for an interval running session, Thursday evening for a hill run at 6pm, Saturday morning at 9.30am for a tempo run and Sunday morning at 8am for a long run.
All runs start at the Aura. All levels catered for and encouraged.
Fit 4 Life which is run by LAC in conjunction with the Donegal Sports Partnership takes place every Monday at 5.45pm on the track at the Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny.
The aim of the programme is to reach out to those who wish to improve their fitness and all are most welcome any Monday they choose to attend.
Fit 4 Life is not about speed but fitness and the coaches from LAC particularly welcome newcomers.
