Repairs to the boardwalk at Culdaff Beach are underway after the walkway was damaged by the recent high tides and ongoing erosion.
Workers from Donegal County Council are on site today facilitating the works.
Plans have been ongoing for the past two months to find. along-term solution for a more stable boardwalk going forward.
Local county councillor Johnny McGuinness praised the council for their work.
He said the funding has been secured for the works and he is hopeful that further funding can be allocated to make access easier and to secure the structure.
He added “I want to thank the Environment Section for facilitating the works and for the co-operation over the last two months to find a long term solution going forward.
“I will be pushing for the reallocation of the €50,000 that I had secured last year to extend the boardwalk from the play park to the larger carpark to be used to fund a hinged gangway to secure long term access for all beach users.
“The boardwalk access will be repaired tomorrow and the engineer will appraise concrete access by the football pitch entrance also. Funding has been secured and additional funding has been applied for to improve the access by the carpark by employing a gangway type solution.”
