Former ESB site demolition underway for state-of-the-art Letterkenny business hub

It was a day of nostalgia as diggers began tumbling the former ESB building in Letterkenny yesterday.

The once-bustling workplace on the Port Road is being demolished to make way for the new ALPHA Innovation Centre.

The multi-million 7 and 8-storey Alpha and Bets buildings will have a mix of public and private spaces for SMEs and entrepreneurs. The buildings will be situated on lands between Pearse Road and Port Road.

ALPHA aims to establish Donegal as a “hotbed of innovation” with its iconic building opening summer of 2025.

Letterkenny Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said the enterprise base will have huge economic growth benefits in Donegal.

“This project when completed will see opportunities of employing 400 to 500 people and will also create more foot fall in this side of our town which should have a knock-on effect and boost already established businesses in this part of town,” Cllr Kelly said.

“It’s fantastic to see diggers on the ground getting this project underway for Letterkenny Town and the North West Region.”

The project is supported by funds from Donegal County Council and Enterprise Ireland under the umbrella of Donegal 2040 Designated Activity Company, in partnership with Donegal County Council.
