Letterkenny’s Autism Family Support Group celebrated a special occasion on World Autism Awareness Day with the official opening of their brand new premises at 31 The Elms, Glencar.

The new space is a much-needed expansion for the group, which now supports over 100 families.

A key focus of the Autism Family Support Group is promoting inclusivity for autistic individuals within the community and businesses. Volunteers also work to provide information and guidance to parents and carers to advocate for their children’s educational and vocational needs and access to services.

Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly had the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening earlier this month. He commended the group and said: “The work you all do is absolutely fantastic,” he said. “I want to take this opportunity to thank June and her team for asking me to do the official opening.”

Councillor Kelly pledged his ongoing support: “I wish you all well in your new premises and I look forward to continuing to support you all in any way that I can.”

The group’s success was further highlighted by their recent trip to Arena 7, which attracted over 100 attendees.

From the Convent Road to Glencar, this new chapter for the Autism Family Support Group signifies a positive step forward for the committee, who are all volunteers who themselves have children with autism.
