Donegal Gardaí have been busy catching speeding drivers during ‘National Slow Down Day.’

Members of the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit nabbed three drivers travelling at excessive speeds in a 100 KPH zone. One was clocked at 137 KPH (85mph), one at 126 KPH and one at 121 KPH.

Gardaí from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were also busy mounting checkpoints today. They detected a vehicle travelling at 89KPH in 60KPH speed zone near a Primary School in the Burnfoot area this morning. They then stopped two more drivers in an 80KPH zone in Carndonagh for the offence of speeding. One was travelling at 101KPH and the other at 106KPH.

These drivers will all receive a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice which will mean that they will have to pay a fine of €160. They will each receive three penalty points.

“Please support us in our bid to keep people safe on Irish roads by slowing down and by driving safely this National Slow Down Day, and every day,” a garda spokesperson said.
