Traces of heating oil or diesel have been discovered in the Donegal town sewerage network.

The pollutant was found in the pier pumping station last Friday.

“Donegal County Council are asking the people in the Donegal town area to please check the condition of your domestic or business oil tank, boiler and all connections and pipework linking the two for any sign of a leak,” a council spokesperson said.

“If any leaks are found, please repair them as a matter of urgency.”
