Three Irish men have been charged over the theft of AU$1 million (€600,000) in luxury goods during burglaries across Melbourne.
The men, who have not yet been named, will appear before court this week over the alleged burglary of more than 60 homes.
The accused men, aged 19, 24 and 25, broke into suburban homes and allegedly used cleaning products in an attempt to cover their tracks.
It’s reported that they were planning to flee the country before their arrest at a hotel near Melbourne Airport yesterday morning.
Police say the men entered Australia in the last six months.
“A 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 19-year-old man all with no fixed address were all charged with numerous counts of aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, burglary, and theft from motor vehicle,” Victoria Police said.
“Three further Irish nationals, who police will allege are part of the same syndicate, were arrested on 18 March in connection to home burglaries in Sunshine and Mill Park between January and March this year.”
“Your home should be your sanctuary – Victoria Police simply will not stand for anyone who seeks to enter someone else’s home and takes what’s not theirs,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brendon Pollock said.
