A woman in her 20s has died after falling from the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare.

The woman was visiting the tourist attraction with three of her friends this afternoon when she fell.

One of her friends alerted the emergency services.

A search operation was co-ordinated by the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue centre on Valentia Island in Co Kerry.

The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter Rescue 115 was alerted to the incident at 1.23pm but despite locating the victim it could not access the area.

Shortly after 3pm, the Aran Islands’ RNLI lifeboat recovered the woman’s body from the water.

“The body of a woman, aged in her early 20s, was removed from the water by emergency services,” a Garda spokesperson added.
