Cill Chartha 0-12 v 0-10 Gaoth Dobhair

By Charlie Collins

This Senior Final hosted by Cloich Cheann Fhaola at Pairc Naomh Fionnan in Falcarragh ended a hugely successful weekend for the Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta, Thir Chonaill 2024.

Kilcar led by 0-08 to 0-03 at halftime, five points from Matthew McClean and two from Ciaran McGinley putting them in a strong position at the break. Early points at the start of the second-half by Adam McGeever and Ethan Harkin got Gaoth Dobhair within three points. Matthew McClean replied with a fine score but Cathal Gillespie’s converted a super sideline ball to make it 0-09 to 0-06 to Cill Chartha.

Points from McClean and Mark Sweeney made it a five point lead but Gillespie quickly kicked his third to leave four points in it – 0-11 to 0-7.

Matthew McClean continued his impressive display by kicking his eighth point to push the lead out to five points again. Stephen McFadden added reduced it to four but as we entered injury-time Kilcar kept control of the ball and had a great goal chance when Matthew McClean put Ryan McShane clean through with the keeper missing but he hit the post.

Gaoth Dobhair added two late points but Cill Chartha held on to win by 0-12 to 0-10.
