Oakfield Park announces 24-hour Relay for Life ‘trainathon’

Just as they did in 2013, and raised a huge amount of money in the process, Oakfield Park is holding a 24 Hour Train Marathon to support Relay For Life Donegal.

The special service at the beautiful Raphoe venue will run from 6pm on Relay Weekend, Saturday, May 25, until 6pm on Sunday the 26th.

The trains will be running nonstop through the night and there will be a special Steam Train in operation from 12 until 6pm on the Sunday afternoon. All monies collected on the ticket sales are being donated to Relay For Life Donegal.

Throughout the 24 hours, there will be music and fun events at the park and there will also be refreshments available throughout the night. There’s no need to pre-book tickets, however, bookings can be made on the Oakfield Park website.

One of the many planned events over the 24 hours is the creation of a special water feature on the lake and full details will be available to see by all on the night.

The 2013 event was organised by the Family of the late Claire McGlynn who sadly passed away from cancer and her husband, Tony McGlynn, who works at Oakfield Park.

Relay For Life Donegal is very thankful to Lady Robinson, David and all the team at Oakfield for their offer to run this event on our behalf.

Relay for Life is the biggest cancer fundraising initiative across the world. It sees communities across the globe coming together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and stand shoulder to shoulder with those facing cancer. Relay For Life is a celebration of solidarity and helps to raise awareness of the services provided by the Irish Cancer Society locally and nationally.

To provide these services requires significant funding and, as only approximately 5% of the Irish Cancer Society’s annual funding comes from government funds, it depends on events such as Relay For Life Donegal to help raise the monies needed.

Obviously not everyone will be able to be present on the day, but donations can be made online through the following link https://www.relayforlife.ie/event/donegal/donate

Further information can be had by contacting Oakfield Park on (074)9173922 or gardens@oakfieldpark.com or by contacting Relay For Life Donegal Facebook Page. Email relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com or contact Seamus Devine (087)2482775 or Davy Cowan (086)3718621.

The special train will run through the night at Oakfield Park, Raphoe, in aid of Relay for Life Donegal.
