Funding of €900,000 has been announced today to develop three walks and recreational spaces in Donegal.

The Millside Walk Fintown, Muckish Railway Walk and MacManus Estate Rossylongon have all been allocated investment as part of ‘Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors’ – the government’s national outdoor recreation strategy.

€200,000 has been allocated to the Millside Walk in Fintown to develop a 2km recreational walking path and associated amenities for public use looping through Coillte forestry on the banks of the River Finn.

At MacManus Estate in Donegal Town, €200,000 will go to improving and enhancing the recreational amenity and associated historic cultural heritage of the former estate at Rossylongan.

Half a million euro has been allocated to upgrade and complete a specific 1.5km and final section of the Muckish Railway Walk to greenway standard.

The announcement from Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD will benefit local communities with new or enhanced outdoor facilities while also helping to support local economies by continuing to offer domestic and international visitors an attractive and exciting array of outdoor amenities.

The Minister was in Letterkenny yesterday with Maria Walsh MEP and local Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh. The Fine Gael members met with the Management Committee of Letterkenny Community Centre as work takes place on the new €1.4 million spectator stand and community/committee room, to be named the Jim Lynch Community Building.
