A recruitment drive for the Defence Forces comes ashore in Killybegs tomorrow when one of its navy ships will open to the public.

The Naval Service will host the event on board the LÉ William Butler Yates which will be anchored in Ireland’s premier fishing port for the day.

The ship will be open to the public between 11am and 1pm, and again from 2pm until 4pm.

Members of the public are encouraged to come and have a look around the vessel.

Serving personnel will be on hand to explain careers in the navy and the various different recruitment pathways in the forces such as ‘General Service Recruitment, Cadetships, Tech Trainees Schemes (trade qualifications), Direct Entry Recruitment and Naval Service Reserve (NSR) Recruitment’.

“This recruitment drive will also provide opportunities to engage with navy personnel in relation to professional military education possibilities and their continuous professional development courses such as service in the Naval Service Diving Section (NSDS) or Naval Service Reserve,” the navy spokesman said.
