Donegal LEA: Sinn Fein’s Noel Jordan elected on tenth count

Noel Jordan has become the second candidate elected to the Donegal Municipal District Council on the tenth count.

He exceeded the quota after eliminated Independent candidate Pauric Kennedy’s 1,423 votes were distributed.

Jordan now joins Fianna Fail’s Michael Naughton as being deemed elected.

Counting will continue as four seats are yet to be filled.

Independent Jimmy Brogan is in pole position to take one of those seats now at 1,950 votes – just 35 short of the 1,985 quota.

Fellow Independent Niamh Kennedy is now also in a great position to seal a seat after gaining a massive transfer from Pauric Kennedy’s votes – now putting her at 1,941.

Sinn Fein’s Michael McMahon is at 1,895, and could benefit well from party running mate Noel Jordan’s surplus once it’s distributed.

That just leaves the two Fine Gael candidates looking the most likely to be battling for the final of the six seats, with Manus Boyle having a commanding lead over Barry Sweeny.

Boyle now stands at 1,708 votes, with Sweeny trailing behind on 1,519.
