Election 20024: Ali Farren and Martin McDermott elected on first count in Carndonagh

Both Ali Farren and Martin McDermott have been elected on the first count in the Carndonagh Electoral Area.

Both candidates exceeded the quote of 1,588.

The 100% Redress candidate Farren topped the poll with 2,253 first preference votes followed by Fianna Fail’s McDermott on 2,069.

Both men were emotional and shook eachother’s hands when the vote was announced.

Farren told McDermott that he looked forward to working with him.

The count now continues in this four seater with Albert Doherty of Sinn Fein tipped to take the next seat having taken 996 first preference votes.
