At least SEVEN complaints have been made to Gardai of ‘inappropriate conduct’ made against a Donegal-based gymnastics coach.

The complaints were made by parents of children at a gymnastic club in the county in recent weeks.

The exact nature of the complaints have not been disclosed by Gardai.

The alleged incidents has led to the suspension of the man by Gymnastics Ireland, the national governing body for the sport, and Gardaí are also investigating the matter.

It is understood the coach allegedly made ‘inappropriate conduct’ with a young person and, as a result, a complaint was made. Subsequently, further complaints were also made by other individuals.

Both Gymnastics Ireland and Gardaí confirmed to Donegal Daily that they are investigating the matter.

“Gymnastics Ireland were made aware of a matter that has been reported to An Garda Siochana,” a spokesperson for the organisation told Donegal Daily.

“As per our policies and standard procedure, we immediately suspended the individual in question pending the outcome of a Garda investigation. While this process is underway we are not in a position to comment any further. We remain in contact with the relevant authorities.”

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office confirmed Gardaí in Donegal have received a complaint and a Garda investigation is ongoing.

“No further information is available at this time,” they added.

It is believed that Tusla – Child and Family Agency is also involved in the investigations.
