Mulroy Academy is celebrating this week after receiving confirmation the club has been awarded the prestigious FAI Club Mark Two Star award.

The FAI Club Mark is an award for grassroots clubs based on best practice in their management and administration. The programme aims to support and encourage clubs to improve standards off the field with the result of having stronger clubs and a stronger game.

In receiving the award, Mulroy Academy has demonstrated a consistent and high standard in a number of areas, including club governance, child welfare, safeguarding and coach development.

The north Donegal outfit has now completed all three levels of the FAI Club Mark Award.

The journey to the Two Star Award took over 18 months. Mulroy Academy was selected as one of just seven clubs nationwide to pilot the programme. It is just reward for the hard working managing committee having dedicated the

last number of years to achieving excellence in the running and organisation of the club from a governance, administrative and coaching perspective.

Mulroy Academy currently has 240 players registered with ten competitive boys and girls teams and non-competitive teams at u10, u9, u8, u6 and Little Dribblers. The club has a group of 30 coaches, managers and volunteers that dedicate their time, skills, and energy to providing football and developing young players in the local community.

Fergus McAteer is the Club Mark Officer who coordinated the award on behalf of the club with the assistance of a dedicated Management Committee: Peter Cullen (Chairperson), Leonard Roarty (Assist Chairperson), Aisling McAteer (Secretary),

Marie Sweeney (PRO), Stephen McGrenaghan and Aidan McAteer (Treasurers).

The club also established a Coaching Subcommittee to oversee coaching structures and strategies. The subcommittee consists of Fergus McAteer, Paul Friel, Syria McGeever and James Gallagher.

Mulroy Academy is 22 years old having been launched in 2002 by Packie Bonner. The former Celtic legend has returned to several events over the years and maintains close links with the club.

It has been a long and rewarding journey for the club form those early days when the guidance and influence of Patrick

Sweeney helped steer the club in the right direction. Mulroy Academy is now among the first 7 clubs throughout Ireland to be rewarded with the status of a FAI Club Mark Two Star club.

The focus going forward for the Management Committee will be to maintain Club Mark standards and implement policies, procedures, coaching and strategic plans to help the club grow into the future.

The official presentations of the FAI Club Mark Two Star Award pilot happen later this year at FAI headquarters in Dublin.
