Donegal 0-09 v 0-08 Kildare

Donegal’s Ladies footballers will be playing Senior Championship football next year after defeating Kildare in this afternoon’s relegation play-off.

It took a rugged effort from the Donegal side, but they were able to overcome All-Ireland Intermediate Champions Kildare with a determined second-half effort.

Donegal trailed by a point at half time at Breffni Park in Cavan, but were far from out of it – 0-06 to 0-5 at the break.

Suzanne White was by far the standout performer for Donegal as she scored a brilliant six points all on her own, four of them frees.

It was one of those frees that gave Donegal the lead five minutes into the second half, after a quick Katy Herron score.

Further points from Amy Boyle Carr and another White free grew the lead to three points for Donegal heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.

Despite Kildare knocking two scores over, the Donegal defence held firm and they held on to the win and their Senior Championship status for next year.
