It was another busy week at the picturesque Buncrana Golf Club.

Drift Inn Teams of 4 Open Scramble Results

The competition last weekend was a team of 4 Open Scramble sponsored by the Drift Inn Bar Buncrana and as usual there was a great turnout for this event.

There was some great scoring returned over the 2 days. However it was the team that could master some difficult pin positions and the speed of the greens who would triumph. No better team to master these conditions than the evergreen combination of Hugh Doherty (3), Sean Mc Menamin (22), Tony Mc Sherry (25) and Martin Mc Laughlin (29). This wiley group of golfers played some great golf to shoot 7 birdies over the 18 holes to finish with a 59 gross and with their handicap of 9.9 deducted they managed to take victory with 49.1 nett. In second place with a 49.6 net was the formidable team of Mark Monaghan (12), Sean T. Murphy (12), Sean Murphy (14) & Eamon Whoriskey (29).

Upcoming Fixtures

Saturday 20 th & Sunday 21st July – The Buncrana Amateur Boxing Club Open Stableford – Sponsored by The Cottage Bar Buncrana.

Saturday 27 th and Sunday 28 th July – The Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford – Sponsored by the Smith Family.

Saturday 3 rd , Sunday 4 th & Monday 5 th – The Buncrana Hearts F.C. Open Stableford – This is a fundraising competition on behalf of the Buncrana Hearts Football Club and as well as the normal prizes there will be a 9 hole Open Stableford for non-golfers i.e. players that are not current members of a golf club. A good turnout from the local golfing fraternity would be greatly appreciated as would the participation of the non-golfers/the footballers in the 9 hole competition.

The Evan Doherty Milk Club Match Play Singles

The club match play singles which is sponsored by Evan Doherty Milk will commence shortly and it will be run on a group basis with every player getting at least 3 matches. This competition is open to both male and female members and the entry fee is €10.00 per person. Names are now being taken in the clubhouse and entries will close Sunday 21 st July.

Drive It Home Draw

It is over 20 years since the clubhouse was built and it is now at the stage where it needs refurbished.

The Buncrana Golf Club is not like the other big golf clubs as it is a community project and maintains the membership fees and green fees as low as possible to ensure everyone in the community and surrounding area can avail of a golfing facility at a reasonable cost. Because of this the club has very little funds available for any major developments and to raise funds for this clubhouse development a Major Prize Draw will be run. The Drive It Home Draw will have €41,000.00 in prizes with the main prize being a Hyundai i30 N-Line car valued at €30,000.00. The second prize will be €5,000.00, third €3,000.00, fourth €2,000.00 and fifth €1,000.00. The ticket will cost €25.00 each or 3 x tickets for €50.00 and 7 x tickets for €100.00. As the clubhouse and the club facilities are used by various community organisations to hold meetings and raise funds for their respective organiations the club will be appealing to the whole community and surrounding area to support this Prize Draw. Please purchase a ticket to ensure the future of the Buncrana Golf Club for generations to come. Tickets can be purchase from any committee member, in the clubhouse, over the phone or online at driveithomedraw.ie
