A man has been arrested in Co Donegal following a spate of break-ins to churches across the county.

At least eight churches have been broken into in recent weeks.

Sums of cash as well as church documents were taken in the burglaries.

Gardai have now confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the burglaries.

It follows two more attempted burglaries to churches in the Ballybofey and Stranorlar areas on Sunday and Monday last, July 13th and 14th.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed a man was arrested and will appear at a future sitting of the local courts.

The spokesperson said “Gardaí arrested a man yesterday in connection with a number of burglaries that occurred on church property in the Twin Towns area on July 13th& 14th.

“The man was interviewed and charged to appear in court later today.

“We continue to appeal to the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity around Churches or Church grounds to Gardaí immediately.

“We always appreciate any information provided by the public as it can often assist our investigations greatly.”
