National: Five lives lost on Irish roads over the weekend

Five people have died in road collisions across Ireland in the past two days.

The incidents across Meath, Kilkenny and Cork bring the total number of road deaths in Ireland this year so far to 113.

Two men lost their lives in a motorcycle tragedy in Co. Meath yesterday evening. The collision involving three motorcycles occurred at Bellaney, Oldcastle, Co. Meath on Sunday at 4.40pm. A motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, and his pillion passenger, a man in his 40s, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A motorcyclist is being treated for serious injuries and a third male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Also in Meath, a man in his 20s died in a single-vehicle crash near Navan on Sunday night, shortly before 10pm.

A 14-year-old boy died following a collision involving an e-scooter and car in Bonnettstown, Co Kilkenny on Saturday evening.

In Cork, a male passenger aged in his 40s died in the early hours of Saturday morning following a single-vehicle collision in Kinsale. The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act and later released without charge.
