Daniel Wiffen has doubled up his tally of Olympic medals for Ireland.
Wiffen was tipped by many for Gold in the 1500m Freestyle, after winning the 800m Freestyle earlier in the week.
However, American Bobby Finke set a blazing pace to start the 1500m final, and along with Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri went World Record chasing as Wiffen trailed closely behind for most of the race.
In the closing stages Wiffen faded as Finke and Paltrinieri battled it out, and the American took home the Gold in a surprise new World Record time of 14:30.67.
Wiffen still hung on to claim a great Bronze medal for Ireland, the country’s sixth total medal so far this Olympics.
