Letterkenny’s Mark English has missed out on an Olympic final place in the men’s 800m.

The Finn Valley AC star finished sixth out of eight in the semi-final at the Stade de France in Paris.

English positioned himself well to place third in the first lap.

Despite giving it his all, and going out in front in the second lap, he ran out of steam in the last metres.

He finished in 1:45.97.

A qualified doctor, English lowered his own Irish 800m national record to 1:44.53 in Madrid in June.
