Burnfoot family strikes gold after chance encounter with Olympic heroes

A Burnfoot family are hoping the Irish Olympic team’s success rubs off on them after a chance meeting at Dublin Airport.

The Cullens were happily going about their business this week when they noticed a bit of a commotion.

It wasn’t long before they noticed that the commotion was because members of the Irish team had just arrived at the airport from their amazing exploits in Paris.

It just so happens that Aoife and Sophie Cullen are sports mad and wasted no time in getting their pictures taken with some of Ireland’s gold-medal winning athletes.

The Cullen girls with gold and bronze medal hero Daniel Wiffen.

The girls, who attend Tooban NS, managed to get pictures with swimmer Daniel Wiffen and gymnast Rhys McClenaghan.

Meeting some of their heroes was a delight for the girls, aged 11 and 9, as they are both sports-mad!

As well as swimming with City of Derry Swimming Club and the North West Triathlon Club, the Cullens are also members of City of Derry Junior Spartans and UKF Karate-Do members.

Who knows, it may well be the Cullen girls who will be signing autographs and having their pictures taken after future Olympic Games?
